Books
TEXT:
I've recently realised the beauty of books. Each page can be totally different from the next and the book as a whole becomes a piece of art.
I recently found William Blake's book 'Songs of Innocence and of Experience.' The illustration and decorations on Laura Marling's album covers are so similar. There's so much to it that each page doesn't look like a page anymore, but a piece of art. I think the realisation of my love for books came last year when I got feedback form my tutors after each assesment. They had more to say about the tactile, handmade manner that I made my work in, rather than the photographs I had produced. Thats when I realised that putting together my images and book making will make me extremely happy. Text and image working together. So, I was thinking, what are the things that I need to be able to make proper books, and not ones that are just ok.
- A really good fucking printer
- A guillotine
- Good quality paper and lots of it.
- Tissue paper and other delicate paper.
At the moment I'm alright seeing as I'm in uni and things are cheaper and I have a lot of faculties there. But, well I can't help but worry about what will happen after uni.
